Ritual
First wolves had to collect a small remaining piece of what was once another animal. This could be teeth, a claw, a scale, and so on. The remaining piece had to come from an animal that had already passed away, it could even be a fossil. Next they would need a unique stone known as the "Black Opal" which could only be found in the deepest of caves. Once obtained, these pieces had to be merged together. This was usually done by Psychic Wolves turning the Black Opal into a summoning stone. A final step was to expose the stone at least three times in the moonlight. Once this was done the stone had to be presented to the newborn child right after birth, after a few minutes the summoning will appear and bond with their new master right away. The pieces they merged together, the animal parts in specific will determine what animal the spirit will be. If it's a piece of skin from a snake, the summoning companion will be a snake. For this ritual to go smoothly, the parents had to make sure that they had the same amount of stones as the amount of children they have. Meaning 3 pups would need 3 stones. Either an entire litter is successfully or the opposite.

Forming Pacts
To be able to form pacts a companion spirits was needed. A summoning spirit would not form a pact with any creature that wasn't born a summoner. Pacts on the other side van vary deeply from one another. The creature itself will make up the rules, and what the summoner has to pass before it will allow a pact. If the summoner has proven him or herself worthy, the pact will last for eternity. Some spirits can be more deadly than others, it was known that a horse like creature resides in the blizzards of the snowy mountains. Wolves brave enough to face this creature were not aware of the difficulty behind it. If this creature did not approve the summoner had to pay with it with it's very own life. Other stories speak of trials that had to be passed in order to form a pact. some creatures might require items, others life itself. Aside from that some spirits require items to be summoned others do not. These creatures come in several categories this being: Changers, attackers, Healers, Shifters and Protectors.
Abilities and powers
Abilities and powers can differ greatly. What is known is that the Earthly spirits come in the existing elements on Delv Ihoo, this being the elements of the dragons. Other than that their abilities and unique moves do not have a standard as they can be quite unique. Taking a look at the 6 types, the companions will usually resemble the element and power of their master, but they can hold on to unique abilities they have had in their past life as a dwelling spirit. The other types have a much bigger variety as "protectors" can come with all sorts of shields or methods of protecting just like "attackers" have their own way of taking down a target.
